Snaffle Monthly Draw — Draw Rules

DraftThis is a first-draft template. It has not been reviewed by a solicitor. Bracketed items are placeholders for legal review. These rules must be approved by a qualified gambling-law solicitor before any real draw runs.

Thanks for entering our prize draws. Snaffle [Ltd] ("Snaffle", "we", "us", "our") runs and is the promoter of the Snaffle Monthly Draw, giving people the chance to win a top prize and many other cash prizes every month. You can find our company information [here]. These rules (the "Draw Rules") explain how the draw works, how to enter, how winners are chosen, and what happens if you win.

By entering, you agree to these Draw Rules. Please read them alongside our [Terms of Use] and [Privacy Policy].

1. Let's get started with the basics

About these Draw Rules

These Draw Rules apply to each monthly Snaffle Draw (each a "Draw"). Each Draw has its own entry period, closing date and draw date, which we publish on the Draw page. The specific prizes for each Draw are published on that Draw's page before entries open.

Key terms we use

  • Entry — one line in the Draw. Every Entry, however obtained, has exactly the same chance of winning.
  • Entrant — a person who has one or more valid Entries in a Draw.
  • Prize Pool — the amount available to be paid out in prizes for a Draw (see section 5).
  • Top Prize — the largest single prize in a Draw, guaranteed to be won (see section 2).
  • Draw Date — the date the winners are selected.
  • Closing Date — the deadline for Entries. The postal Closing Date is later than the online Closing Date to allow posted Entries to arrive (see section 4).

No purchase necessary

You do not need to pay to enter. There is a free postal entry route, described in section 4, which has exactly the same chance of winning as any paid Entry. Winners are selected using a verifiably random process that does not distinguish in any way between paid and free Entries.

Where your entry fee goes

For each Draw we publish how entry proceeds are allocated. Our standard allocation is:

  • 25% to the Draw's chosen charity partner [name per Draw], with a minimum donation of £[amount] irrespective of the number of Entries sold;
  • 15% retained by Snaffle to cover the costs of running the Draw, payment fees, VAT and our profit;
  • 60% to the Prize Pool, from which all prizes are paid.

We publish the actual figures for each Draw after it closes (see section 7).

2. The Top Prize

Each Draw has a Top Prize (the amount is stated on the Draw page before entries open). The Top Prize is must-be-won in every Draw, regardless of how many Entries are received.

The Top Prize winner is the first valid Entry drawn at random. The Top Prize is paid in cash to the winner's [nominated UK bank account] within [28] days of validation.

3. Secondary and additional prizes (the cascade)

After the Top Prize is drawn, we continue drawing Entries at random to award further cash prizes from the remaining Prize Pool, working down through the published prize tiers until the Prize Pool for that Draw is allocated. Every prize is a minimum of £[50].

The number of winners at each tier depends on the size of the Prize Pool for that Draw: the more that is raised, the more prizes are awarded. The prize tiers and the way the Prize Pool is shared are published on each Draw page before entries open.

We never pay out more than the Prize Pool. Every prize is funded from the Prize Pool. Any small residual amount that cannot fund a further prize is carried forward to the next Draw's Prize Pool or donated to the charity partner, as stated on the Draw page.

4. How to enter

Paid entry (online)

Buy Entries online in bundles shown on the Draw page. Larger bundles offer more Entries. More Entries means more equally-weighted chances of winning — it does not change the chance of any individual Entry. A monthly spend limit of £500 per person applies (with a lower £250 limit for credit-card payments) as a responsible-play measure.

Free entry (postal) — no purchase necessary

Free postal entry address

Send an unenclosed postcard or a letter containing your full name, address, postcode, email address and the name of the Draw you wish to enter.

Rules for postal entry:

  • One Entry per postcard/letter. [State any per-person limit.]
  • Entry must be made by the postal Closing Date and received by us before the Draw Date.
  • Postage must be at the normal first- or second-class rate (special delivery does not qualify as free).
  • Illegible, incomplete or bulk-submitted entries may be rejected.
  • Each valid postal Entry has exactly the same chance of winning as a paid Entry.

The postal Closing Date is [2] days after the online Closing Date, to allow posted Entries time to arrive.

Equal chances

Winners are drawn by a verifiably random process. Paid and free Entries are treated identically and have the same chance of winning. Snaffle is a prize draw. It is not a lottery, raffle or gambling product.

5. The Prize Pool

The Prize Pool for each Draw is 60% of total entry proceeds for that Draw (after the 25% charity allocation and 15% Snaffle allocation). The Top Prize and all other prizes are paid from the Prize Pool. We never pay out more than the Prize Pool.

6. Additional entry requirements

  • You must be aged 18 or over and resident in the United Kingdom [and the Channel Islands / Isle of Man — confirm].
  • You may only enter using your own details.
  • Employees of Snaffle and their immediate families [and the independent scrutineer] may not enter.
  • We may refuse or cancel Entries we reasonably believe to be fraudulent, automated, duplicated or otherwise in breach of these rules.

7. Transparency — what we publish after each Draw

After each Draw we publish:

  • the total number of Entries received, broken down by category (free/postal and each paid bundle size);
  • the number of winners and total amount paid at each prize tier;
  • the amount donated to the charity partner;
  • confirmation that the Draw was conducted using our certified random-selection process, overseen by [an independent scrutineer].

We publish this so that anyone can see how the money was distributed and that free and paid Entries are treated equally.

8. What happens if you win

  • We will contact winners using the details provided, within [7] days of the Draw.
  • Winners must respond and complete any verification we reasonably require within [96 hours / 14 days] of being contacted.
  • We may verify a winner's identity, age and eligibility before paying any prize.
  • Cash prizes are paid to a nominated UK bank account within [28] days of validation.
  • We may, at our reasonable discretion, publish the first name, county and winning amount of winners for transparency. [Confirm publicity terms and opt-out.]
  • If a winner cannot be contacted or verified within [state period], we may [redraw / donate the prize / roll it forward] as stated on the Draw page.

9. The final bits you need to know

  • We may substitute any prize with a cash alternative of equal or greater value.
  • We may amend these Draw Rules where reasonably necessary; the version published on the Draw page at the time of entry applies to that Draw.
  • We are not responsible for entries lost, delayed or damaged in the post, or for technical failures outside our reasonable control.
  • These Draw Rules are governed by the law of [England and Wales] and subject to the [exclusive] jurisdiction of its courts.
  • Snaffle operates as a prize draw under the Gambling Act 2005 exemption for free draws, by providing a genuine free entry route with equal chances of winning. It is not a lottery and is not required to hold a Gambling Commission licence.
  • [Complaints process and contact details.]
  • [Reference to the DCMS Voluntary Code of Good Practice for Prize Draw Operators, if you become a signatory.]
